Advantages of the UP45 Half-Inch Solvent-Based Ink Cartridge

1

Classic Half-Inch 12.7 mm Standard Print Height

The UP45 half-inch solvent-based ink cartridge offers a print height that adjusts flexibly between 2 mm and 12.7 mm, precisely matching a wide range of product marking and packaging coding needs. It provides a consumable option compatible with mainstream 12.7 mm TIJ systems, helping businesses extend the use of existing equipment and lower adoption and switching costs.

2

Fast-Drying Formula That Keeps Pace with Conveyor and Inline Coding

UP45 fast-drying solvent-based ink is well suited to conveyor integration and inline coding systems. The ink dries within 1 - 3 seconds after landing, preventing smudging or dragging when the print is touched further down the line — no need to slow down to wait for drying, so production throughput is maintained.

3

High-Adhesion Ink for a Wide Range of Non-Porous Substrates

Solvent-based ink forms an image by adhesion, bonding firmly to non-porous materials such as plastic, metal, and glass. The UP45 ink formula offers strong adhesion, clearly marking even curved surfaces, recessed areas, and irregularly shaped flexible packaging — expanding the range of products you can code.

4

Long Decap Time — Resistant to Clogging After Stops and Restarts

Decap time is the length of time the printhead can stay exposed to air without clogging. The UP45 industrial ink cartridge provides a longer decap time, giving production lines more leeway when restarting after line changes and pauses, effectively reducing cleaning frequency and waste-ink residue.

5

600 DPI High Resolution for Smooth Barcode and QR Code Scanning

The UP45 industrial ink cartridge supports output up to 600 DPI, keeping the edges of 1D barcodes, QR codes, and small serial numbers crisp and free of blurring. This improves scan-recognition success rates and read speed, meeting the barcode-scanning accuracy required for product traceability and logistics management.

6

Waterproof and Abrasion-Resistant — Marks Resist Fading

Finished industrial-coded products often experience friction during handling and stacking. Once the solvent evaporates, the colorant bonds firmly to the printed substrate, delivering waterproof durability that resists fading even as conditions change — ensuring dates and batch numbers stay legible throughout the product's life cycle.

7

High-Quality, 100% Brand-New Cartridge

Every UP45 industrial ink cartridge is newly manufactured — not a recycled used cartridge refilled and repackaged. The brand-new printhead structure ensures consistent print quality and a low failure rate, keeping output stable and efficient throughout the cartridge's service life.

Suitable Printing Substrates

The UP45 half-inch 42ml solvent-based TIJ ink cartridge works across both porous and non-porous substrates, ideal for marking non-porous surfaces that require fast drying and high adhesion.

Common printable surfaces:

  • Plastics: PET, HDPE, LDPE, ABS, PP, PVC, PS (polystyrene), PO, nylon, PC, acrylic
  • Films: OPP film and other flexible plastic films
  • Metals: iron, steel, aluminum, aluminum foil, galvanized steel, laminated metal
  • Glass
  • Laminated paper / glossy coated paper
  • Wood, leather, and select synthetic materials

Food-grade solvent ink can also be paired with egg-coding printers for date coding on eggs. Surface material, coatings, temperature, and humidity all affect adhesion and drying performance, so we recommend running a print sample test before full production to confirm the most suitable ink formula and equipment parameters.

Half-Inch vs. One-Inch Solvent Ink Cartridge

With a smaller single-pass print height, the half-inch cartridge suits standard small-character marking, small barcodes, and date codes. When you need larger fonts, wider output, or fewer stitched multi-cartridge setups, you can evaluate upgrading to the one-inch solvent ink cartridge.

Compatibility Check

The UP45 half-inch TIJ 2.5 industrial ink cartridge is compatible with most half-inch coding systems on the market. In addition to the common HP 2580 and HP 2590, it also works with many handheld and inline TIJ coders.

Non-encrypted models are usually directly compatible; if you use equipment with an encryption chip, you can provide the model information during consultation to help confirm compatibility.

The UP45 half-inch solvent-based industrial ink cartridge is ideal for:

Manufacturing industries such as food, beverage, pharmaceutical, electronics, chemical, building materials, and logistics/warehousing, as well as packaging plants, system integrators, TIJ coding-equipment suppliers, OEM / ODM equipment manufacturers, and international distributors.

Usage and Storage Recommendations

Storages:

  • Avoid direct sunlight
  • Keep away from dusty environments
  • Storage temperature 15 - 35°C (59 - 95°F)
  • Do not store upside down for extended periods

Usage:

  • When pausing use, put the cartridge back in its protective clip to avoid prolonged printhead exposure
  • Use within six months of opening
  • Even with no short-term printing need, test-print about once every two weeks to extend cartridge service life
  • The ink is not edible; keep it out of the reach of children
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes; if contact occurs, rinse promptly with water and seek medical attention if you feel unwell

Product Certifications

The food-grade inks in the UP45 solvent-based series have passed SGS testing and meet the requirements for food-contact packaging marking applications. The products also comply with the RoHS (2011/65/EU) hazardous-substance restrictions and the direction of the EMC electromagnetic-compatibility directive, and have completed environmental registrations such as France's LEKO eco-contribution and Germany's EAR (WEEE). If you need certification documents for a specific market, feel free to request them during consultation.

FAQ

Which coders can the UP45 half-inch solvent ink be used with? +

The UP45 half-inch solvent-based ink cartridge is a TIJ 2.5 specification and can be used with many handheld and inline TIJ coders. If you currently use a non-encrypted TIJ 2.5 system, it can usually be adopted directly; for models with an encryption chip, we can also help you evaluate a compatible solution.
If you are unsure whether your model is encrypted, you can also provide a photo of your current cartridge, machine information, print-content requirements, and substrate. We will help confirm compatibility and provide a suitable ink solution and sampling recommendation.

  Half-inch or one-inch cartridge — how do I choose? +

The key is the single-pass print height you need and your equipment conditions.
Half-inch (12.7 mm, 42 ml) suits small-character date codes, batch numbers, and small barcodes.
One-inch (25.4 mm, 60 ml) suits large fonts, logos, and outer-case coding, and requires equipment that supports a one-inch printhead.
If your marking content is on the smaller side and you want to continue using your existing line, the half-inch is the most direct choice.

Are solvent-ink marks waterproof and hard to erase? +

Yes. Solvent-based ink contains a waterproof oil-based carrier; once the solvent evaporates, the colorant bonds firmly to the printed material's surface. The printed content is waterproof, durable, and resistant to fading from changes in climate or temperature, and can generally be regarded as permanent ink.
Note that in a few cases alcohol may erase solvent-ink content (depending on the substrate — some materials are unaffected by alcohol while others can be wiped off). We recommend storing coded products properly and avoiding prolonged contact that could degrade the surface material.

Is the UP45 half-inch cartridge suitable for food-packaging coding? +

UniPlus offers SGS-tested food-grade solvent inks (such as food-grade magenta and food-grade blue) that meet the marking requirements for food-contact packaging. Before actual application, we recommend running a sample with your food-packaging substrate and equipment to confirm adhesion and drying performance.
Paired with an egg-coding printer, food-grade ink can print dates, batch numbers, and brand logos on eggshells — one of the most representative TIJ applications in the food industry.
